What is SeNT?

SeNT, the Secure Electronic Network Transfer project, is an electronic referrals service, designed to integrate fully with GPs existing clinical software. The application enables electronic referrals to be securely passed between healthcare providers. Referrals can be launched within the existing GP pathways, or directly from the GP desktop, ensuring minimal deviation from the GP workflow.

SeNT is integrated with the clinical software and utilises the BPAC decision support platform. Referral forms are automatically populated with patient data directly from the host clinical software, and clinicians can specify the specialty and level of urgency for each referral. Referrals are authenticated using NASH certificates, meaning no user administration is required.

SeNT Referrals contain condition specific guidance on patient referral management. Based on the patient’s clinical data and locally set criteria, this helps clinicians work through the referral process ensuring the locally agreed criteria for referrals are being met and the required information is included in a standardised referral format. SeNT covers clinical referrals to community and secondary care providers.

Key Benefits

By providing in-consultation guidance through the referral process, SeNT Referrals ensure that each referral meets locally agreed criteria and that the necessary information is shared between healthcare professionals. This approach increases efficiency, patient and professional satisfaction, and reduces inappropriate referrals. SeNT Referrals also identifies patients who should be referred for further assessment and management. The referral is available as an electronic file with functionality that allows the receiving healthcare professional to send back consultation notes to the referrer, which can then be written directly to the patient record.
